Water Softener Installation in Phoenix, Quoted in Writing

Hard water leaves crust on your faucets and scale inside your water heater. We test your water for free, size a softener to your home and give you the installed price in writing. You see every part and every step before we start.

What a Softener Does for Your Home

A water softener pulls calcium and magnesium out of your water before it reaches your pipes. Those minerals are what build white crust on shower glass and hard scale inside water heaters, dishwashers and faucet aerators. Phoenix-area water tends to run hard, so a softener is often the right fix here.

We still test first. The hardness number tells us how big the softener needs to be and how often it should regenerate. A system that is too small runs out of capacity and lets hard water through. One that is too big wastes salt and money.

Before any work, you get a written quote. It names the softener, the valve, any parts for the plumbing, and the install. If something changes once we open up the wall or the garage loop, we talk to you first.

What Your Softener Install Includes

  1. 01

    A free hardness test

We check your water's hardness and a few other basics at your home. The test is free and comes with zero obligation.

  2. 02

    Sizing to your household

We pick the tank size from two things: your test number and how many people live in the house. Get that right and the softener cleans itself on a sensible schedule instead of too often or not enough.

  3. 03

    Install included with the system

Install is included with water treatment systems we sell. Installs are done by licensed and insured partner plumbers. They set the resin tank and brine tank, connect the control valve and run the drain line with a proper air gap.

  4. 04

    A bypass valve

We fit a bypass right at the softener. Turn one handle and water flows around the system, so it can be serviced while the rest of the house keeps running water.

  5. 05

    Setup and a walkthrough

We program the valve, start the first regeneration and show you where the salt goes and how to read the display.

  6. 06

    Cleanup

We bag up packaging and wipe down the work area before we leave.

How to Tell Your Home Needs a Softener

  • Crust that keeps returning

A few days after you clean the showerhead and faucet, the chalky white ring shows up again. Glass shower doors get cloudy the same way.

  • Spots on glassware

Glasses come out of every wash with a haze or dried spots, and rinse aid doesn't make a difference.

  • Rumbling from the water heater

Popping or rumbling sounds usually mean scale has collected on the bottom of the tank. Heat pulls minerals out of water faster, so the heater gets hit hardest.

  • Soap that barely suds up

You use extra shampoo and dish soap to get foam, and a filmy layer lingers on your skin or in the tub.

  • Blocked aerators and showerheads

When one fixture slows to a trickle, mineral grit jammed in the screen is a common cause.

How Install Day Goes

  1. 1

Free test and a written price

First we check your hardness and pick a good spot for the tanks. Then the full price goes on paper. Many homes around Phoenix already have a softener loop in the garage, which keeps the job simpler.

  2. 2

    Set the tanks

The plumber places the resin and brine tanks on a level spot near the loop or main line, with room to add salt.

  3. 3

    Plumb and drain

We connect the control valve and bypass, then run the drain line to a legal discharge point with an air gap.

  4. 4

    Program and test

We set the valve for your hardness, run a regeneration, and check for leaks at every fitting. Then we test the softened water so you can see the difference in the number.

What Moves the Price of a Softener

No two homes need the exact same setup, so we price yours after the test. The quote lists each item on its own line. You know the full installed cost before we touch a pipe.

Your hardness reading and water use
A high reading plus a busy household calls for a softener that removes more minerals between cycles. A larger resin tank costs more at the start but regenerates less often.
Existing loop or new plumbing
A ready softener loop is a short job. No loop means opening up the main supply line and building new connections, and that adds labor hours and parts to the quote.
Control valve type
Metered valves regenerate based on water you actually use and save salt over time. Timer valves cost less but regenerate on a set schedule.
Add-ons
Some homes pair a softener with a carbon stage for chlorine taste, or with reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink. Each piece is priced separately so you can choose.

Water Softener Questions

Will softened water taste salty?

Most people can't taste it. A softener swaps hardness minerals for a small amount of sodium, not table salt in your glass. If you want drinking water with less of everything, reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink is a good match.

How often do I add salt?

That comes down to how hard your water is, how much water you run and how the valve is set. A lot of homes go through a bag or two each month. We show you how to look inside the brine tank so you can tell when it's getting low.

Can I use potassium instead of salt?

Yes, most softeners run on potassium chloride. It costs more per bag and the valve may need a setting change. We can set it up either way.

What warranty comes with the softener?

Equipment valves carry a 5-year warranty. We go over what that covers when we write up your price, so it's on paper with everything else.

How long does the install take?

With an existing loop, most installs are done in part of a day. New plumbing takes longer, and we put the expected time in writing. Water is off only while the plumber makes the connections.

Do I need a softener or a filter?

A softener handles hardness. Chlorine taste and odor call for whole-home filtration instead. Our water testing shows which problem you have, and some homes need both.
